WoW Forever beta demand overwhelmed its servers.

In the account published on 18 September 2026, developer Tom Ellis described demand as the most startling he had seen in 17 years at Blizzard and almost eight working on Classic. That was his assessment of the beta response, rather than a published player-count record.

Logging in was one major problem. The beta used a single REGIONAL realm, leaving one connection point to handle incoming players. Some people waited through the queue only to be disconnected afterwards, so reaching the front did not guarantee a successful login.

Players who got into the game also encountered delays when looting, accepting quests or performing other actions that depended on the servers. Ellis discussed database performance as part of the explanation; those database problems cleared immediately after the developers addressed the issue.

Empty maps remaining active created another problem. Developers prepared a fix that required restarts, added worlds and expanded the regional service. The account describes beta launch disruption and the work to repair it, not evidence that the same problems are still happening now.
